Today's First Grandma-ism

My next run is the bridge; it's going to suck with the wind.  It's just wicked (unless it's going to be perfectly at my back the whole time).

Anyway, as you know, Grandma's the only person who gets calls from me today.  I just gave her a ring, and told her that my next run will probably start around noon-ish.  My advice to her was to have a glass of wine somewhere in the range of 12-12:15pm.

Me: "Have some wine.  I'll have some water."

Grandma: "I'll be drinking up a little bit."

Hysterical!

1st Run Done!

Man, it is sunny & warm out!  I made it, had a decent pace, and am now done until the 7 Mile Bridge!

Check out these stats from Run Keeper.  Not too shabby, eh?!

And these are pictures that Beau took of me starting the run.

I'm Up Next!

Woo hoo!  I'm up next!  Don't have any predictions on my pace, so I'll just see what I can do.  Gotta remind myself that the legs need to be slightly "saved" for the upcoming 7 Mile Bridge!  Wish me luck, world!

Weather Update

Windy (which is good), and it still appears to be coming from the N, NE, or NNE, so it's at our backs.  But it is certainly not partly cloudy!  The sun is out!!!!

Getting Closer to My Turn!

Beau's out there now, and then Ryan goes.  He has strict instructions to hand off the slap bracelet as a "baton" to me and not try to slap it on my arm.  Maybe it's my HS track days, but I need that baton!

Just saw Melanie from the Pink Panthers!  She looks good & said her runs were good so far!  Yeah!

How Many More Miles, You Ask...

Tiffany's partway into her 4.9 mile run, Beau's got 4 miles, Ryan's got 2.4 miles, and then it's Kimmie time!  Woo hoo!  Maybe another hour or so.  Can't wait!

Go, Tiffany, Go!

Tiffany's out running now.  She did something really smart: picked a bright coral top to wear!  That makes her easy to identify, so Beau (to whom she will hand off) can spot her without trouble!  I'm hoping that with my turquoise top and bright pink tie-dye Zensah calf sleeves, I'm easy to spot too!

In case you're wondering, those aren't my legs.  Mine look so much better than that!  LOL!

Our Third Runner's Out There Now!

Erick is our third runner, and he's out there now with strict instructions to kick ass & take names!  He'll hand off to Tiffany who then hands off to Beau who then hands off to Ryan who will then hand off to me!  It's sort of strange to be almost 2 hours into the race and to have not run a single step yet!

Race Update

Ryan finished his first leg, handed off to Jess, and now we're headed to Founder's Park where Jess will hand off to Erick.  The sun's starting to come up more, and it's a beautiful morning!  Hello, MM87.7!

Overheard This Morning

A few quotes from this morning for your enjoyment!

In reference to the weather: "What you call 'cold,' I call 'awesome!'"

In reference to finding our first stop (a church): "I see Jesus!  I see Jesus!"

(No, I didn't utter either of these!)

Good Morning, World! It's Race Day!

Until Tomorrow, Blog Readers...

Nighty-night, blog readers!  It's not even 9:45pm, and I feel like I should've been in bed at least 30 minutes ago.  4:45am (when the alarm will go off) will be here before I know it!

Another Grandma-ism

Just got off the phone with Grandma.  Decided to call & check in to make sure that the "good doctor" had made his visit.  Yes, he had!  The call ended like this.

Me: "Remember - stay well hydrated."

Gram: "You don't have to tell me that twice."

(I kid you not!  That was part of the conversation we just had!)

We Got Our Bibs! Team 574!

Woo hoo!  Can't wait to pin this puppy on tomorrow morning!

A Grandma-ism

Grandma got her delivery of Dr. L yesterday.  As she puts it, "The good doctor made a house call."  (Seriously, how cute is she?!)

I spoke with her earlier today, and she commented on how my note instructed her to stay "well hydrated."  Hey, as a runner, I know the importance of staying well hydrated, so why should Grandma be any exception?  She just gets to hydrate with wine!

She told me she was going to wait until 4pm today to have a glass.  I reminded her that it was socially acceptable to have a glass before 4pm, and she said that's a good thing because she didn't know if she could wait that long.  Hysterical!

It's 4:49pm.  I sure hope the good doctor's made a house call (or two) by now.

Back to Running (Although, Not Literally...Yet!)

It feels a bit strange to not be running today.  Fridays are "run days," and I can't remember the last Friday when I didn't run!  As much as I contemplated doing just a small run today, I knew it probably was better to just save my legs for tomorrow.

I have to say that I'm really looking forward to this weather!  Check out what Weather Channel is saying for the morning in Key Largo.

I haven't done a time calculation yet as to approximately when I'll be running, but no matter when my first run is, it should be delightful!

A Little Food Porn

Lunch was fabulous, and I had the sweet potato burger that I love!  Unlike dinner last night where I forgot to take a picture of everything before it was done, I did remember to take a picture today.  Enjoy!

So here's a funny story for you.  When the topic of lunch came up at the fruit stand, I suggested Ballyhoo's and said "that's where we ate last year."  At the time, I couldn't remember the exact menu item that Beau had ordered, but I did remember that he really, really liked it, and I was actually sad that I didn't order it.  When we got to Ballyhoo's and started looking over the menu, the name jogged my memory: Joe versus the Volcano.  It's a salad and has shrimp, mango, spinach, noodles, and avocado on it.  Well, without me telling Beau that's what he had last year, he ordered the exact same thing!  Of course, he got a kick out of hearing that's the same salad he had last time.  (He appeared to love it as much as he did a year ago; an empty plate was all that remained!)
This is not actually Beau's plate.

How I remember what other people order a year after the fact is beyond me!

Ballyhoo's for Lunch!

No, it is not this kind of ballyhoo that we'll be having for lunch!

We're headed to Ballyhoo's Historic Seafood Grille in Key Largo, and that means I can get the sweet potato burger that I love!  We stopped at Ballyhoo's last year on our way down for the race, so this seems like a good tradition to continue!

We're Headed South

Hey, blog followers!  Good news: we are on our way!  Met up with Ryan, Beau, Jessie, and Hans at the air station, threw my stuff in the Armada, and we hit the road.  We'll make a pit stop at Robert is Here for some fruit and then continue south.

If the weather stay like it is today (very overcast, windy, and almost cool), it'll be beyond perfect!  Can't wait!

So Excited! Hope I Can Sleep Tonight!

I hope I can sleep tonight!  I'm 95% packed (other than those last-minute items that you really can't do this far ahead of time), and there's no training left to do.  Brain, if you're listening to me, please shut off, and let me rest.

The adventure begins tomorrow after a brief pit-stop at my school for some meetings.  R2R Team 8 "Flightsuit Fanatics" is set to rendezvous at 12pm in Opa Locka!

My Food List

Take a look at the list I made to remind myself what food to pack in the morning before I leave.  Do you think I was a bit worried I'd leave the bananas here?!

A Perfect Pre-Trip Meal

I was going to call this a perfect pre-race meal, but I guess that's (technically) tomorrow night's meal and not tonight.  Either way, Dave and I hit Kazu tonight, and it was awesome!  This is not a picture of what I had, but it gives you an idea of what the Summer Roll is like.  Tuna on the inside and cucumber on the outside.  No rice and no seaweed.  Had some brown rice as a side, and it was delish!

Nothing like some good, complex carbs and pure protein to fuel me!

Was I a Girl Scout in a Former Life?

Hit Target during my afternoon work break & got some first aid goodies.  I've done this for past relays and (luckily) never needed anything bought.

Got some Pepto, regular band-aids (the good, stretchy cloth ones), the super-special blister band-aids, New Skin liquid for blisters, Icy-Hot, first aid cleansing spray, and Benadryl itch relief stick.  Had a Costco-sized bottle of Advil here, so in that went too.  As I told Dave, this is the "we have it, but we hope not to use it" supply of stuff to keep everyone running happily.
